What is the French Gemmology Laboratory?

The French Gemmology Laboratory (LFG) is the oldest gemmology laboratory in the world. Founded in 1929 by the Chambre syndicale du diamant, it has been affiliated with the Union BJOP (French Union of Jewellery, Gold, Silverware, Stones and Pearls) since 2011. Its main mission is to appraise gemstones in order to inform consumers.

The French Gemmology Laboratory makes it a point of honour that every report issued is based on a rigorous scientific analysis. It is also the only laboratory in France to offer scientifically-based analyses for diamonds, gemstones, coloured stones and pearls. The certifications issued by the LFG are recognised worldwide for their reliability and security, which is why major jewellery houses, such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chaumet and Boucheron, trust it to guarantee the authenticity and quality of their precious stones.

Founded and operating according to the National Expert Charter, the LFG also complies with the recommendations of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. This laboratory is entirely independent, thus guaranteeing the objectivity and neutrality of its expertise.

This approach allows us to best guarantee the quality and authenticity of our stones. Although the systematic analysis of each stone or pearl is impossible due to high costs, this regular appraisal protocol constitutes a reliable control. It helps to strengthen transparency with our suppliers and maintain the trust of our customers.
